In a world where the digital data and content on our mobile devices – personal photos and videos, contacts, music, documents and more – is often more important to us than the devices themselves, the capacity to safeguard that content in a personal cloud has become a “must have” instead of a “nice to have” for most consumers. If digital data is not properly backed up, the loss of a mobile phone, tablet or laptop could very well mean the permanent and heartbreaking loss of family photos and videos, only copies of legal documents, and all contact phone numbers.
Because of this, different types of organizations increasingly recognize the important role that personal cloud access means to their subscribers and customers. Educational institutions are one example.
Earlier this year, for example, we shared the news that Telkomsigma, the IT arm of Telkom Indonesia Group, will deliver our Synchronoss Personal Cloud solution to Indonesian universities. The Telkomsigma Community Cloud will be offered to students at 25 universities as a tool to securely store, share and transfer academic documents with their professors, school groups and peers. In the coming three years, millions of students across Indonesia will have access to this personal cloud to use to store, share and transfer academic documents.
It’s a perfect use of personal cloud as universities and other educational institutions across the globe have fully embraced technology and the value it provides to educators and students – even before a pandemic forced so much learning to become virtual. And let’s not forget that students produce and save a lot of content beyond their academic papers. I don’t think anyone would be surprised about the massive number of photos and videos the average student has on a single mobile phone. Why wouldn’t educational institutions put in place their own branded personal cloud solution?
Personal Cloud Use Cases
The great thing about personal cloud is that it works for other sectors as well. In addition to our collaboration with Telkomsigma, we’re also helping companies in the insurance and retail verticals launch their own branded personal cloud solutions.
When you have a chance, read here about what we’re doing with Allstate Protection Plans , who is integrating our white-label personal cloud solution into select device protection offerings. And as recently announced, Japan’s Kitamura, a multimedia retailer, selected our solution for integration into its online and retail channel to give its customers the ability to back up and manage their valuable digital content, including photos and videos, from any device. Finally, let’s not forget telecom – a marketplace where we help protect and manage the content of more than 142PB subscribers across the globe.
Why brands?
We all have a lot of digital content on our personal devices that need protection from loss, so it’s especially comforting when the brands and organizations with which we interact the most give us an option to safeguard that data. Who doesn’t want peace of mind that comes with automatic backup; a super high level of privacy and security; and the ability to personalize how we interact with our content through features like enhanced search and tagging, easy sharing, memory flashbacks, picture puzzles, and more.
There is also something in it for brands too, including an opportunity to increase customer retention, grow brand value and differentiation, and even drive new revenue.
Obviously, all of us here at Synchronoss are super excited about the possibilities of personal cloud.
